For a healthy glowing skin

There are several ingredients found in the home which are used in making beauty packs. ChickpeaFlour (Besan) is one such ingredient. It is commonly used in all households. It is primarily used as a food but it is also a great ingredient for enhancing beauty.
The powder made from ground chick peas or channa dal(lentil) is known as gram flour. We all know the beauty and health benefits of gram flour
Gram Flour or Chick Pea Flour Face Pack
It is used for several beauty treatments like the removal of Tan which is caused because of the harsh sun rays and sunscreen is not enough to prevent it. So, if you are suffering from tan then mix 3 tbsp gram flour with yogurt and a pinch of turmeric. Apply this mixture on the affected areas for 20 minutes and then wash it away; you will see the results in just 1 week. It will remove the tan and makes your skin glow.
It can be used as a Body Polisher and you can make one easily at home. Take half a cup of gram flour, half cup rice flour and make a paste with the help of raw milk and rose water. Apply this paste all over your body and let it dry. Gram flour exfoliates and removes oil from skin while the milk nourishes the body.
It helps to remove Facial Hair: Besan(Gram flour) is the considered to be the best facial remover.
Take gram flour and fenugreek powder in equal quantity and make a paste with the
help of water. Apply it on the face and let it dry, then wash your face with
cold water. Doing this every alternate days helps you in getting rid of unwanted facial hairs.
Gram flour has natural cleansing properties and that is why it is used in almost every face pack. You can make your own too by mixing gram flour with honey, lemon and rose water to make a paste. Apply this paste daily for 20 minutes for that instant glow to your face which is long lasting.
Long and Healthy hair are made possible with the use of gram flour hairs too. Take gram flour and almond powder in equal quantities and make a paste of it with the
help of curd and olive oil. Apply it on the hair and keep it till it dries. Then wash it off. This hair pack nourishes hair and is ideal for dry and damaged hair.
Our Knee and elbows are always darker then our hands but using a gram flour pack regularly can help you in whitening these areas. Just mix gram flour with lemon and
apply on the knee and elbow for about 15 minutes and then wash it off. You will see results instantly.
So gram flour is that wonder ingredient that enhances your facial beauty making it glow and at the same time getting rid of unwanted facial hair.

Delectable Green Banana Koftas

Bananas are good for health. They are rich in potassium and this was the fruit advised by my sports teacher when I was learning to play football. According to him it was the best fruit to gain muscle power.
Then one day my grand mother made koftas or dumplings from boiled raw green bananas. Since that day I have become a fan of this dish of raw green bananas. It has a taste which is unique and unparallel in its flavor. I still remember that when ever she wanted to reward me she prepared my favorite dish made from the charming green bananas.
The Recipe
The dumplings (raw banana kofta) can be served as an appetizer or can be simmered in a rich gravy and served as a main course dish.  These koftas make for an excellent side with flavored rice or rotis. The raw banana kofta curry can be served with pulao and you have a special meal on hand.
Prep time: 30 min
Cooking time: 45 min
Serves: 4
Main ingredient
1 raw banana
Ingredients
For Koftas:
Raw bananas - 2, boil in 3 cups water till soft
Paneer or cottage cheese - 3 tbsps (grated) optional
Onion - 1, small, very finely chopped
Besan Gram flour - 1 tbsp
Ginger - Green chili paste - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
Dried mango powder - pinch
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsps, finely chopped
Salt to taste
Oil - for deep frying koftas
For the Gravy:
Cinnamon stick - 1"
Cardamom - 1
Onion - 1, finely chopped
Tomato - 1, large, pureed
Green chillies-ginger paste - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder - pinch
Coriander powder - 1 1/2 tsps
Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
Cashew - 10 (soak in 1/4 cup milk for 15 mts and grind to a paste)
Fresh cream - 1 tbsp for garnish (or malai/top of milk)
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 tbsps
Coriander leaves for garnishing
  1. Method
  2. Cut the end of the raw bananas then cut each raw banana into two pieces. Do not peel the skin. Boil them in 4 cups of water along with 1/2 tsp turmeric powder on low to medium flame. It will take approx 20-30 mts based on the size of the raw bananas. Insert a knife into the raw banana and if it goes through smoothly then it is cooked. Turn off  the heat and drain the water. Cool and peel the raw bananas and grate them.
  3. In a bowl, add the grated raw banana, chopped onions, grated paneer, ginger green chili paste, coriander powder, amchur powder, coriander leaves, besan and salt. Mix well and if necessary add another tbsp of besan to bind the mixture such that you can make small lime sized balls (koftas). Make small koftas and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, reduce the flame to medium and place the balls gently into the hot oil. Deep fry to a golden brown shade and remove into a bowl lined with absorbent paper. Keep aside and make the gravy.
  5. To prepare the gravy, heat oil in a cooking vessel. Add the cinnamon stick and cardamom and allow them to splutter. Add the chopped onions and sauté for 6 minutes. Add ginger green chili paste and sauté for a minute. Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and salt and mix. Add the tomato puree and cook for 8 minutes. Add cashew nut paste and cook for 3 minutes.
  6. Add 1 1/2 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the flame and simmer for 7to8 minutes or till it reaches the desired curry consistency. Turn off heat.
  7. To serve the kofta curry, place the koftas in a deep bowl and pour the gravy over the koftas till submerged. Allow to sit for 7-10 minutes and serve warm. Garnish with fresh cream and fresh coriander leaves.
Today I want to share this recipe with you and hope that all of you would love it as much as I do.

putting weight loss tips to test

Once upon a time I used to be thin and lean how ever with time weight seem to have become my best buddy. However hard I try it seems to get back with a vengeance.  Not being someone who would give up easily  I keep trying to win the battle against gaining weight and try my best to put it off as much as possible. In my quest for losing weight I stumbled upon the article https://www.rewardme.in/health/healthy-living/article/10-weight-loss-tips-that-work at the rewardme site.
It gives an interesting perspective about losing weight. Earlier I was constantly checking my weight on the weighing scale but the author of this article lays emphasis on using a food scale to measure the food portions eaten by me. It says when eating out one should start with the appetizers but skip the entrée or if you order the entrée than share it. Since entrée is the dish  served  before  the main course.  I guess it is a good way to avoid overeating and over indulgence.
Another main point it focuses on is that one should eat more fruits. It suggests to take a fruit and keep it handy so if one has a craving for something sweet one should munch the fruit rather than biting into some man made sweet dish this way we give our bodies natural sugars and fibers instead of lots of calories.
Protein shakes find a place in the list of recommendations. When eating a low calorie meal. A protein shake which comes in a number of flavors can be incorporated in the diet.
I have the next point my self which I never knew is called Box your self in. This is something to be tried at the office cafeteria. This involves choosing the smallest container and filling it up with a serving. Then try to eat slowly and then decide of you need more. Perhaps this way we are telling our minds that we had a plate full of meals already and perhaps we should stop.
Brushing after every meal is also suggested as it tends to stop the craving for food after that so you would not crave for a mid night snack after you  brush your teeth.
Taking pictures at regular intervals is said to help you keep motivated every time you lose weight or help you check yourself if you are again beginning to gain weight .
Liquid calories is a point which draws our attention to a common pitfall that we all weight watchers face for we do keep a track of what we eat but at times tend to pick up a sugary packed drink, processed juice or a lemonade. The sugar it contains undoes the gain of following a diet plan. Instead a  glass of wine is a better drink as suggested by the author .
Getting back into skinny pants: Every now and then getting into tight jeans and clothes that once used to fit can be very motivational and helps us in following our diet charts and goals with renewed vigor.
Adding lemon ,cucumber and herbs to water not just adds flavors but also helps the body to remain hydrated.
Don’t eat the leftovers: After cooking your meal and serving yourself one should put the remaining food away in the fridge so that one does not over eat. I seem to agree with this point completely as we tend to overeat when we find food lying on the table close to us and we just pick it up and start eating without thinking much. Overall the article is not just an interesting read but also a great way to remain focused on following a regular diet regime without being too harsh to ourselves.

Home clean home

I am a working woman and my whole day is spent in preparing breakfast and meals and then rushing off to my office. It is not an easy life. My life is so hectic that my home is usually neglected. Things are never in order and when I come back home I find every thing in disorder and disarray. This further leads to my confusion and I usually do not know what to do and from where to start.
I talked to a friend of mine about this problem. She suggested that I am sure to find a solution on the internet. So I did a search on how to maintain my home in a clean state without much hassle and in the minimum of time. Within no time I had numerous answers and it was for me to pick up the right one and the one that suited me the best. My search led me to the Reward me website. To my joy the website had articles on various topics ranging from beauty, skin care, hair care, family life and nearly everything one would want to know about.
I came across an article under the topic Home Décor https://www.rewardme.in/home/home-decor
It talks of 10 easy steps to give your house a cleaner look and feel. I found this article to be very easy to follow and I felt confident that by following the mentioned steps I too would be able to keep my home clean and tidy.
It suggests that we must create private and public spaces in our home. We must use the rooms near the entrance as public spaces like the dining area and the living room and keep these areas free of clutter that is no clothes, no mail, no papers, no storage areas. The rest of the house can be a mess, but cleaning the rooms that guests see, gives the whole house the appearance of being clean.
It advocates to do simple things like putting the dishes directly in the dishwasher or the sink in my case. Take the trash out every night, so there are no lingering smells. Throw dirty clothes immediately in the hamper, so there aren’t piles everywhere.

Anything on the floor should be put away or tossed out each day bare, unoccupied floor space gives every room a more open, airy, and less cluttered look I tried it and now believe me I have more space on the floor.
Make the beds. It gives the room a sense of order.

In the bathroom keep the counters free and store your daily use items in cabinets.
I implemented these tips in my daily life and now my home is all set to receive guests. Now my family too has become a part of the cleaning process and is in a way enjoying it as there is a race to see who does the assigned task first. The result -you have to come and see it for yourself.

A hug to tell my Dad how much I love him

My dad is my role model because his kind and loving nature always inspires me. My dad is special for all the joys he has brought to my life and for all my wrongs that he made right. I admire his positive attitude in life & he is so determined that he never gives up. This has really helped him overcome the challenges in life always. My dad is my strongest support for he always loved me unconditionally and for all those times she stood by me. My dad is special for being my strength when I was weak and always seeing the best in me. He never let me fall.
My world is a better place because of my Dad. Hence I owe everything I am to my dear Dad. Thank you Daddy for loving me unconditionally and for always being my strength, my backbone & my lifeline my constant support. My dad never grumbled or ever complained in life. He never gave up and worked very hard to earn back what he lost in life. We have been through many bad times but he never compromised on our education. Since childhood I always looked up to my dad and I loved the positive attitude of my dad.
He advised me to have a positive attitude in life and never cry over the past as the past cannot be changed. He says that the future and our present is in our hands. We should take failure as a stepping stone to success. He would advise me to take failure in my stride and with a positive attitude because only with a positive attitude and with faith in ourselves we can achieve success. Thus these pearls of wisdom from my dad have always motivated me. & give me the strength to follow my dreams.
He dedicates his time to help me improve in my schoolwork and sports. He has regular conversations with me about everything that’s going on in my life and cracks jokes that bring a smile to my face. I couldn’t ask for a better father and role model than him. He is the person whom I love the most in fact my first love and when I see him my heart fills with love abundant respect for him. I love him with all my heart. He always makes sure I do my best in whatever I do.
He has always taught me to be steady; strong; caring and daring and to be an achiever overall. He has instilled in the spirit of never say die for which I am greatly thankful to him. He has always been my GUIDE.I can hug him million times to thank him for everything. My papa stands for;

A hug for the most special person my Dad

My father is extra special because he gave up so much to take care of me I cannot imagine a life without him. He is caring, loving, and a generous man. He wrapped me in his arms so tight and held me close when I was afraid. He told me that hard work is the key to success and never to loose hope in difficult times. He taught me to have patience. He said that one should do their best and leave rest to GOD. Laugh in difficult times and transform the bad days to good days. He taught to value life and to never give up hope on those we love. He always made me comfortable in different situations. With him the biggest difficulties just vanished in no time. You are my inspiration and strength papa. He is the strongest man I will ever meet in my life.
My papa is my super hero because he protects me from all the difficulties.
My papa is my superman because he shows me light in my dark times.
My papa is my comic hero because he brings a smile on my face when I cry.
My papa is my Winnie the Pooh because he teaches me a good lesson
In short; my papa is everything for me.
When I was born and the doctor told them to make a guess whether it was a boy or a girl by showing my face, everyone guessed its a BABY BOY but you are the only one who guessed its a Baby Girl. He always wanted me. He calls me his strength but in reality he is my strength. When I cried you were always there to pamper me and make me smile.
When I made the endless demand you were always there to fulfill it.
Whenever there was a function in my school you were always there to attend with my mom, you were always concerned about my progress.
You would help me and guide me with my studies. Despite your busy routine, you would make sure that you spent time with me and my mom.
You would always appreciate me for even my smallest achievements and your shining face would always encourage me. Being a busy dad, he struggled to give us time and when he did those were the most beautiful and memorable time we spent together to do better.
You have put lots of faith in me and made me confident.
Whenever I am in confusion you are the only friend with whom I can share everything and in return I find my solution easily.
You are always like the shade of a big tree that protects me form any difficulties of life.
Dad you are my friend ...you are my hero.
The man, who gave me everything, wants only my love and care in return. You are truly my hero.

Maxfresh way of getting fighting fresh

Guys I am at the hospital and I am going to be here for a while. The good news is all is well with me and I am not ill or unwell. The bad news is that a friend of mine is admitted to the hospital and since she is a hosteller and has none of her family in town and so I am looking after her.  Life in a hospital is very boring and monotonous. The smell of the disinfectant and the feel of the place is in itself enough to make a healthy person sick. So leave alone those who are already ill and need care and looking after.
The only normalcy or life like quality is brought in by Raju the young tea vendors assistant whose shop I can see from my window. A common interest between me and Raju’s tea shop seems to be Anushka Manchanda. For most of the time I find that the music playing out from the tea vendors shop happens to be sung by Anushka Manchanda. The young assistant of the tea vendor is named Raju and every time I see him approach the hospital wards he seems to be dancing like Allu Arjun. The moment he enters the gates of the general ward his dancing inspires clapping and cheering even the patients who are in a serious condition seem to await his arrival as they expect him to sing his own version of a Anushka Manchanda song and show his Allu Arjun dance moves.
Raju never fails to disappoint any of his audience as his singing and dancing makes people forget their illness and sufferings. Instead they join the revelry and celebration by singing along and dancing. It is that part of the day when they experience their maxfresh moment and it leaves them refreshed and prepared for the life ahead. If such a small act of carefree singing dancing can bring so much happiness and freshness in the lives of so many people then I cannot wait to see what would be the response if a Anushka Manchanda and Allu Arjun were to perform live at a concert organized specially for those who are admitted to the hospital. Since the stay at a hospital can be both long and difficult .
The moments of celebration, singing and dancing will bring cheer and maxfreshness in the lives of all those at the concert. After all the patients, their attendants, nurses, ward boys, technicians, support staff and the doctors too need to experience a maxfresh moment and feel the forces of life flowing through them.

Celebrating life with family

I live in a joint family and at the same time I am a working professional. Even though it is hard to balance
a busy domestic life and a demanding work life yet I try to strike a balance between the two.
Throughout the day I work hard to meet deadlines and complete the projects on time and at home
it’s the household chores that take my time and energy. So we have come up with an arrangement
at home by which we share our responsibilities and take turns to share our work load. This ensures
that all our domestic chores are completed smoothly and without any commotion and tension.
Instead anyone who comes to our home finds an environment of celebration and festivity in our house.
The chirpy chit chat of kids ,the flow of laughter and enjoying life is a on going daily ritual that
 celebrates life in our home.
What ensures our mood of celebration in our house is not just sharing of our work but ensuring
that we go on picnics together not just once a year but on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
Sometimes these picnics are day time trips and sometimes we visit and stay overnight
at nearby places for a relaxing change. These make the picnics into weekend getaways.
However what is important is not just these picnics and weekend getaways but the preparation
of these trips fills the lives of everyone in my household with an eager sense of joy and excitement.
Selecting a destination and planning what all activities would be undertaken at the destination is an on-going process.
As we return from a trip we begin planning as to where we would go next. We list the activities that we would do there be it boat riding, going on treks or long walks in the jungle or by the river side.
The only condition that we impose upon ourselves is that whatever activities we undertake at the venue it should be enjoyed by all the family members. Since our family consists of three generations therefore
it is important to decide upon activities that can be enjoyed by the entire household.
So playing word games and singing songs on the way is a great way to bond and spend time together.
At the destination we look for activities like going on walks and visiting places of interest like
temples and places of tourist interest and museums. It  is a very nice way where the senior most
generation and the youngest most members walk hand in hand and these experiences help
to bridge the generation gap and together we all celebrate being in the company of each other and this adds great value and quality to our lives.

Sometimes Sorry is not enough

Sorry is one of the most abused words
people use it to get out of tight spots
sometimes they do not even mean it
However there are instances when due to a number of reasons
people never say sorry or give an apology
I feel that saying sorry is more about feelings.
It is a feeling that you have done something wrong. If you feel it in your heart only then it has any effect.
Without having the realization. the word #sorry is meaningless

Renewing faith in hope

I passed out of my school with good grades. After completion of my school I decided to opt for a secretarial course. As soon as I finished the course I got my first break in a good MNC.Things were going great.I enjoyed my life to the fullest.I was a favourite among my family so I was always pampered. My office had its main branch in Mumbai and many officials from there used to visit our Delhi branch. One of the sales executive "Henry"whom I often talked to for official work came to our office. He was supposed to stay in Delhi for around 6 months for a particular project. He was tall, dark and handsome. He always attracted attention of all the office girls because of his looks, but he never mingled with anyone. He was good looking as well as well educated. We interacted many times officially. Our casual hello's turned into outings. We started going out for coffee break's and then for lunch and dinners.Within 6 months we were madly in love with each other. He was very serious and so he proposed to me for marriage.I was very happy as I had at last found my true love who was serious for marriage but soon I came back to the reality.I was a Hindu and he was a Christian. We belonged to different religions and cultures. We both shared our love story with our families and asked for their permission. My parents were completely shocked and refused this alliance straight away. After a lot of discussion and melodramas my family asked me to make a choice between them or my Love.Same thing happened with him too.Henry and me decided to get married with the hope that soon our family would understand. With a heavy heart I left my home and we got married at court with close friends around.Things went smoothly and within a year I gave birth to a beautiful little daughter and we named her "Angel".A year passed and my daughter was healthy, everything was fine except she didnt utter a single word till now like other kids.We took her to different doctors, hospitals and speech therapists but Angel could not utter a single word.We were very sad and felt our families curse has caused us this unhappiness. We went to different temples and churches. We felt hopeless and devastated. One day I broke down and cried in front of the idol of Mother Mary.An elderly lady who came to visit the church came to me.She caught hold of my hands and asked me have complete faith in Mother Mary. She said that with hope every thing is possible. She gave me a new hope I restarted my efforts with my new found hope and spirit.Within a month my daughter spoke her first word "Ma". I could not beleive my ears and asked her to repeat the word again and again.I called Henry and shared the good news.We felt like blessed parents. The hope given by a stranger gave me a new strength and filled our life with happiness and joy.

Relocating to a new life

I was born in a joint family. My father had a transferable job so we shifted from Delhi to Bangalore away from our big family.I was very small when we moved to Bangalore.I had more experience of a nuclear family now than a joint family. After finishing my MA I got married in a joint family. My in-laws family consisted of 6 brothers and all of them were involved in the family business. They mainly dealt with the cloth business. My husband was the youngest son.It was not very easy for me to live in a big family.I was the most educated amongst the daughter-in-laws and this was not welcomed by the other bahu's (daughter in laws) in the family.I was under constant pressure to prove myself. My cooking skill was questioned and criticized. My only hope was my husband who supported me always. On the other hand my husband faced the same treatment from his brothers. He was good in his business skills but his brothers treated him as a slave and imposed their decisions on him.My husband wanted to have his own business which was not acceptable by others. They told him clearly that if he wishes to have his way in the business, he has to leave the family business and the family home.Ours was a new marriage. We didn't had much of money reserves with us.There was no end to the taunts and I was soon loosing my patience and on the other hand my husband was helpless. Our bond of friendship was new which has just started. We didn't know when and how to share our thoughts with each other. One day as usual at the dinner table my food was criticized and I lost my calm and rushed to my bedroom with tearful eyes, without eating my dinner. My husband followed me to the room and consoled me and told me that he liked  my cooking and there was nothing wrong with it.He held my hands and for the first time we were really together with each other and felt we are one and there was a special bond between us.We trusted each other and shared our dreams with each other. He shared with me the way he wants to start his own business and I told him my dream of teaching children. But as it was not allowed in a joint family. It was hopeless. Our eyes locked and twinkled. We decided to move out to a new house. It was not an easy decision but our support for each each other was strong.Others criticized us for this decision. My husband was made to sign that he is moving out of the family business and home with his free will and he is no longer eligible for any share. We were determined #StartANewLife. Our family and friends doubted our decision. At last we rented a small house. My husband started his own garment business with the reserve money and I started home tuitions. We worked hard day and night.Today my husband has his own garment factory and I have a tuition center. We together achieved our goals just because I took the bold step of moving to a new house and creating a new identity for myself.
#StartANewLife.

Getting to my goal with the power of together

I was born a healthy baby. Everyone  loved my chubby cheeks. I was a complete foodie. Besan ke laddoo and Gulab Jamuns were my weakness. Being a pampered daughter of the family I was supplied with ample sweets. When I was in school I was teased as "fatty" which didn’t bother me much. I had just one love "Good Food" which I could not resist. When some one wanted a favor they bribed me with sweets that are my favourite besan ke laddo or gulab jamuns and I happily completed their work without any delay. I played hard and ate hard. I remained plump. Days passed by, time flew but my love for food didn’t fade with time. I could still eat 10-15 besan ke laddoo in one go. My aunt affectionately teased me and said that if I didn’t stop eating sweets I would not find my prince charming. I didn’t care and told her I don’t want to get married as my only love is my food. I opted for home science and cooking as a subject in my 12th class. The session has just begun. There were new admissions, new students in our class. I was busy chatting with my old classmates when our teacher asked the new students to introduce themselves. All the new admission students came out in the front to give their introductions. Out of these 10-12 students my eyes fixed on this boy whose name was Ajay. He was smart, down to earth and sophisticated. I fell in love with him. He was studious as well as very talented. He sang very well. He became an instant hero of our class. But my love was one sided as he never gave me a second look. Now when my classmates called me  "fatty" I felt bad. I was fat that’s why Ajay never took me seriously or talked to me while he chatted with other girls in the class. I literally stopped eating and increased my workouts but all this was of no use. I often thought the weighing machine to be defective and giving a wrong reading. I remained unhappy and depressed and in depression I felt like eating more. I was very unhappy. After blaming myself I started blaming everyone around and my family. My aunt who lived nearby and was very dear to me took me to a park and when alone she asked me the reason of my unhappiness. I told her about my feelings and helplessness. She hugged me tightly. She told me one should not lose hope and if we are determined we can get whatever we want. She promised me that together we can workout a plan to make me slim and attractive. She made my diet plan and exercise routine. She took me for morning and evening walks. She kept records of my jogging routine. Soon with a balanced diet and exercise routine things started working in my favor. She explained that if I am patient slowly and steadily I would soon become slim and attractive. My aunt gave me a new hope. Within 2-3 months I lost weight and my body got into shape. I caught the attention of the opposite sex. Ajay also found me attractive and I was overjoyed when he started initiating conversation with me. I loved my aunt and being with her #together not only instilled a new hope in me but also gave me great happiness by achieving my target.
